Assignment 2: Real Construction (Real Dome)

Week 4

Hi ppl =)
GC² has made it this time~!! oh yeah~!!!
we finally got our materials and this week we have did a great job.. it's time for the assembling of everything..
we thought that it'll take us ages but it seems that it's easier than it sounds and than we imagined it.. @@
the 3 of us went on with our idea after our sketching and measurements and so.
we decided to come up with 6 pentagons combined with bamboo and for the connectors, we will be using wires.. =)
to ensure that they really do hold properly, we applied hot glue gun unto it.. so hopefully it'll be stable~!
and so we went on with the construction of our dome.

we came to this store for the materials... it seems that the owner raised the price after they received more customers.. wth?? =.=!!!
amazingly, we broke 1 saw and we got to get another new 1.. T.T violent us.. =p

thirsty.... @@

halfway there~!!!

hand pain coz of the wiring.. T.T
after we're done with our pentagons which looked something like this:
we went on with our base.... but unfortunately, the string wouldn't hold the bamboo tightly.. if we were to tie it now, after 3 weeks till the day of the test it's sure to be loose and eventually we'll end up drowning... =.=
so what we did was that we left the base there but it was in its appropriate measurement.
we decided to connect them after raya.. and hopefully it'll be on time.. fingers crossed~!!

talking bout shading, we're still figuring out of a way for the shade..
grace's idea was the umbrella method... =.=!!!! which will eventually disrupt the occupants in the dome.. hahax
so it's just for fun anyway..=p
and so we're done with our frame..
now wad's left is the shade and the base..
GANBATEH GC²~!!!! ^^

Teamwork is like Rojak. If there's not more than 1 variety, then it just won't work out. -Grace A.-

Assignment 2 Real Construction ( Real Dome )

Week 3:

We went back to the shop which make paper dolls for the Buddhist. We went there with other groups:Feng's and weng jen's group.
My group bought 8 bamboos there. It cost rm2 each.
Hahh...we cut the bamboos at there too.(hope that we didn disturb the boss lah..)
Before this ,we bought measuring tape from the nearby stationary shop.

we need cooperation very well!!
be careful when we cut the bamboos...
we  cut the bamboos in to 2 measurements......by using the small saw

get some fun although feel tired and hot.....

Then,we went other shops to survey some connectors......
Besides,we also went to Tesco to buy the wire (rm3.80) and plier(rm9.90).....
We felt quite grateful coz our progression can go smoothly....we plan that we will start to construct the dome next week....XD

Assignment 2
Real Construction ( Real Dome )

Week 2

Went to buy lorry tyres tiub on Friday afternoon. Its located somewhere near USM too. Its took us about 10 min walking time. We bought 2 tyres tiub , 1 bigger and another smaller. It costs us RM30

On Saturday , we went to Penang Times Square for our Rus 101 assignment. Meanwhile , we walked to area around Prangin Mall to find the paper for our balloon box for the Youth Jam 10 project. We went to 1 shop that make paper dolls for the Buddhist. And we accidently found some useful bamboo at there which can be easily bend into shape. Hence we decide to go bac that shop to buy the bamboo tis coming week. Sadly we forgot to take any pics of that hence cant upload here.
Assignment 2
Real Construction ( Bamboo Dome )

Week 1

We sketched out our idea of making the dome.

yim quan's idea

grace's idea

my idea
First we thought of the base will be made of either 3 or 4 tyres depending on the size of the tyres and how big we will to make the dome is. We choose to use tyres because one of our friend , Keong suggested that tyres would float better than bottles.

Then on top of the tyres , we will tie it with the bamboo. Either all in horizontal or we will do it in horizontal and vertical like the " tikar ". We cant decide it yet because we wanted to test which structure is more stable and stronger.

The dome we having some problem in connecting it. Till now we still cant manage to find the way that can connect the bamboo strongly and firmly. However we still get some idea like tie it with string , screw it , use wire to shape the structure.
